Ministries

Stewardship:

Our committee’s goal is to encourage every member to pledge to our annual campaign, which takes place in October with Stewardship Sunday in November.
Each year we highlight a different aspect of our Stewardship. It might be hearing from agencies that we support; it might be members sharing their reasons for giving; it might be talking about how to support wonderful staff and our home.

MANNA Soup Kitchen:

The MANNA soup kitchen is a non-profit organization which has been in existence for twenty-four years. Its purpose is to help hungry and needy people within our own community. MANNA serves an evening meal on Wednesdays and a Saturday lunch at Edwards Church.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no age or education requirements. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or her drinking problem. There is an AA meeting every Friday starting at 6:30 pm.

Men’s Fellowship

Our purpose is to bring together men in friendship and fellowship and to find the time to grow and develop as Christians and share God's ministry of peace and love.

Diaconate:

Our Diaconate is a group of members that feel a calling to the spiritual side of our church life. The members of the Diaconate take on many roles in the Church but most are centered around the weekly worship services and bringing spiritual care and support to our members. The Diaconate works directly with the Pastor to create the template for our weekly services and is responsible for all aspects of the service. Coordinating lay readers, handling the flowers on the communion table, being involved in baptisms and serving Communion are some of the ways that the Diaconate helps in the spiritual life of Edwards Church. Other aspects include participating in our “New Member” classes and helping to bring the Word of God to those in the congregation that are unable to come to church or are in need of a personal visit.

For some people, this hands-on participation in church life is the most fulfilling. It allows them to share their deep love of God with others and express their joy in all He has to offer us.

Women's Fellowship:

Womens's Spirituality and Fellowship is an open group of Edwards Church women who gather for a light luncheon, monthly. This is a time to catch up with each other and have informal discussions about women out of the bible and living as women of faith today!

This is an example of a meeting topic.

"Women Shall Learn in Silence in Full Submission” – The Household Codes and other passages in the Writings of Paul that challenge women. What may have been going on to cause the writer to address these things? What do women theologians make of them now? Can we, 21st century women, make a place in our Christian faith for these writings? How can we help other women and men to understand them? If you want to read ahead, see Ephesians 5:21-33, FirstTimothy 2:8-15.

Fellowship Circle

The Fellowship Circle’s aim is to create opportunities for fellowship. They coordinate hosting of fellowship following worship and they work closely with the Deacons to take charge of events, soup luncheons, special dinners etc.

Outreach Committee:

The congregation at Edwards Church views our charitable giving as a sacred covenant we enter into with our local and global community. Many of our members are active in local charitable organizations as volunteers or paid staff. The Committee for Christian Outreach oversees the portion of our church’s budget that is earmarked to support local, service-based non-profit organizations. In addition to monetarily supporting these groups, we collect special offerings or hold fundraisers during times of local or global crisis and make our church facilities available for worthy peace and justice causes.
Please feel free to read more information on the Outreach Committee at Our Social Change Page

Music Ministry:

The Committee on Music enthusiastically supports the Edwards Church music program, which continues to enhance our weekly worship with a spirit of service and excellence.
